Memory Machine: Strengthening a Health Tech Product with Purpose

Project Overview

Memory Machine is a care-focused platform designed to support Persons Living with Memory Loss (PLML) by helping them stay connected with their carers, family members, and close community. Inspired by the founder’s personal experience, the product is both a health tool and a passion project—built to reduce isolation and create a more supportive, connected environment for users with cognitive challenges.

The platform includes:

  • A PLML app in Android Kiosk mode (to prevent confusion or accidental exits)

  • Network member apps for iOS and Android, used by carers, friends, and family

  • A Network Admin dashboard for managing users and subscriptions

  • A platform admin interface for internal operations

Core features include video and voice calls, secure messaging, a shared calendar, and device tracking—bridging communication between the PLML and their support network.

Product Focus

I joined after the MVP had launched, with a strong foundation already in place—but facing several critical issues: feature inconsistencies, tech debt, and fragmented feedback loops between users and the development team.

My focus was on improving performance, refining features, and supporting the founder’s mission through reliable releases and measurable growth.

Key priorities included:

  • Identifying and resolving pain points around messaging, call reliability, and user onboarding

  • Improving the shared calendar experience to ensure events were correctly assigned and visible across platforms

  • Supporting Kiosk mode stability, ensuring the PLML app was distraction-free and easy to navigate

  • Establishing efficient product delivery processes that helped the founder demonstrate traction during investor conversations

My Role

As the Product Manager, I served as the bridge between user needs, business priorities, and development execution. I worked closely with the founder to define release goals, prioritize fixes, and champion the user experience—particularly for a demographic that required simplicity and clarity in every interaction.

I also helped tighten internal product operations, managing timelines and communicating clearly with cross-functional contributors as the team scaled up.

Outcomes

  • Reduced tech debt and stabilized critical features across the platform

  • Streamlined the release process, enabling more frequent and reliable updates

  • Addressed high-friction pain points in core workflows, particularly event management and call connection stability

  • Supported the founder’s funding goals by delivering product improvements that increased credibility and confidence

  • Achieved a 91% increase in downloads within one year, driven by improved usability and product reliability

Key Takeaways

Memory Machine wasn’t just a product—it was a mission. My role was to help mature the platform from a functional MVP into a dependable care tool that could scale and support real families. Working with a vulnerable user base reinforced the importance of simplicity, accessibility, and empathy in product thinking—while balancing business needs with deep respect for the problem being solved.
